I never would have thought to ask about this - doesn’t every oven broil? Isn’t that part of what ovens do?

I have just been in contact with Whirlpool customer “support” about this - they advertised “closed door broiling” as though it were a feature. However, what they FAIL to tell you is that when the internal oven temperature reaches 500 degrees, the broiler element switches off. Further, the element turns off when the door is opened, so you can’t leave the door open to prevent the oven temp from reaching 500 degrees.

To put this into perspective, if you want to brown a piece of food that you are broiling, you have NO WAY of knowing how long that will take, because the element may or may not be on at any given time. I tried to broil a chicken (butterflied) and it took me more than an hour - normal time is under a half hour. And it wasn’t properly browned, because I couldn’t force the heating element to go on for a predetermined length of time.

The front panel controls are not particularly intuitive, and in some cases are misleading to use (time cooking requires the user to refer to the owners’ manual each time because the keystroke sequence is not intuitive to remember).

The fans are rather noisy and sometimes rattle. All in all, this thing came with our new house, and we’re considering ripping it out and getting something that works. If anyone knows how to rig the sensor so that you can broil with the door open, PLEASE post a review here with that info.
