We purchased the double 30″ Dacor ovens for our new home about 4 years ago, and had regular visits from the repair company until the warranty expired. Items that were replaced include: temperature probe, oven door glass kit, oven door, electronic circuit board.
On the Positive Side:
The pure convection mode is awesome. We can bake 12 loaves of bread at once, or 6 trays of cookies, or cook a turkey in one oven while we make pies for Thanksgiving dinner in the other - all with wonderful results. The doors stay cool so we don’t worry about children burning their fingers. The kitchen stays cool. The timers for each oven (when they work) are great and we use them often even when we aren’t cooking in the ovens. Programming for delayed start is easy to do and saves a lot of time by having a meal ready when we arrive home from an activity.
We specifically bought this oven because we bake a lot of bread and wanted to make more than two loaves at a time to feed the teenagers. We did a lot of research on cheaper brands and found consistently high marks for the Dacor convection ovens.
On the Down Side:
We gave up fixing things after the warranty expired. First, we noticed moisture collecting in the glass, then tried cooking a turkey and couldn’t get the temperature probe to work. They replaced the glass and the probe. Then they replaced one entire door because we still had a moisture problem. The probe still didn’t work so they told us the electronics needed to be replaced - that didn’t work either. At this point we were at the end of the warranty period. After this last fix we started having minor issues with the timers - sometimes they simply wouldn’t turn on unless we pressed other keys first. The ovens have performed well, but the timers have degraded and on two occasions we had to turn off the power to the ovens to reset the controls so they would work (a fix we came up with on our own). Reading other customer comments on the internet now we see a pattern - many people have had similar problems. Too bad Dacor can’t fix the electronics. I would carefully consider other brands if we had to replace this oven. We had similar quality issues with our Dacor gas cooktop. For the price, we are disappointed with the quality of this appliance.
