This is my second Dacor oven and this is the second Dacor oven that I will replace before it is 5 years old. Both times the ovens came with the house.
My oven, cooktop (with downdraft) and microwave are Dacor and I suspect it was, as the other reviewer found, due to the availability of a downdraft. I will review the others elsewhere but at a glance: the cooktop is a nightmare to clean, the downdraft is just this side of useless — even with the increased blower size and larger ducting we added, the microwave however has the best auto defrost function we’ve used. I always thought that handy feature was more or less flawed until this microwave. So I’ll keep the microwave.
Back to the oven. I call it my ‘demon oven’ because it is possessed. At any time, on any day, it will light up. The light may stay on for a few seconds or a few hours. Then it may stay off for a few minutes, hours, weeks or months. It may go off and on randomly for weeks or months, or it may rapidly click and blink like it is possessed - ergo demon oven.
The oven operations are average, certainly nothing to warrant the cost. Speaking of cost, the Millennia is $1000 CDN less than the Epicure but is the same oven except for the door handle/console design — all the features are identical. That’s a lot of money for a handle.
The touch console requires hard pressing. I end up using my knuckle instead of my fingertips because it gets uncomfortable and tedious when you have to press it more than three times going up and down with temperatures or the timer.
There are two timers. One is a cook timer which will turn the oven temperature down to a holding warmth until you turn it off. This is a handy feature. The other timer is independent and will beep until you turn it off — annoying but also handy in case you miss it because you’re in another room or what have you.
The delay start time with cook timer feature is very handy if you are going out and want dinner ready on your return. I use it often with roasts, stews and chilis.
The oven does not self-clean well, I need to clean it after it does the self-clean cycle. It does the worst job of any self-cleaning oven I have owned and does not have any effect on the grease accumulated on the door viewing glass.
The heating elements give a heat balance that is not as good as the Kitchenaid convection I had years ago (and cost 1/4 of the price). The Miele gives the best convection in this price range.
It is spacious but nothing outstanding for a 30″ oven. It does not have a hidden element, something that is becoming more common and really opens up the interior. It has more width than I needed most of the time but was handy when I needed things to fit side by side, which is rare.
The design is clean, which seems to be the main selling point of many appliances nowadays. The handles come with colored-end options which some folks may find appealing.
