We built a new home in 2005 and started appliance shopping for what we hoped would be the best value in appliances. We wanted matching appliances in the kitchen(color/make). We decided on the Whirlpool electric wall micro/oven combination($1,659.99@Best Buy). Within a year this unit went bad. Called Whirlpool and was hooked up with their local service provider. He came out and advised that the entire unit would have to be replaced. Unit #2 is installed at no cost to us. Now the microwave of Unit #2 will no longer work. This is two units in less than two years that have gone bad. Service man has been out twice to repair. No luck in fixing the unit. He called Whirlpool and they could not even tell him how to open the unit up so he could get into it. We have spent hours on the phone with Whirlpool trying to get this repaired. We have been told that it is now out of warranty and any repairs are at our expense.

I develop real estate. I am telling you what I plan on telling all future buyers. Stay away from Whirlpool. Two bad units in two years seems to be acceptable to them. The best they have offered is to reinstate my warranty for 6 months once all the repairs to the existing unit are complete. To use an old adage, that is like locking the door after the cow is out of the barn.

The unit looked nice on the sales floor and the same when it was installed in our home. Beyond that there is little good I can relay to you. Their customer service line seems designed to frustrate the caller. Getting a supervisor on the line is a near impossibility. I will never, knowingly, buy from this company again.
